Extended critical review (arXiv:gr-qc/0304042) arguing the “black holes radiate” prediction — often treated as one of QFT-in-curved-spacetime’s most secure results — actually rests on two questionable assumptions: (1) that ordinary low-energy physics can be extrapolated to describe vacuum fluctuations at exponentially increasing (trans-Planckian) energies, and (2) that quantum-gravitational effects on this process can be neglected. Concludes the case for Hawking radiation is much less secure than usually presented, and that non-radiating micro black holes should be taken seriously (e.g. as dark matter). relevance_note: the central, most substantive published dissent on whether Hawking radiation is real/complete — direct challenge to Premise A’s evaporation claim.
