The prior [0.778, 0.222] rests on the standing IOM Adequate-Intake classification; the Zeisel depletion trial ([[CG-33 - HC-14 joint over O-94+O-95+O-96]], anchor H-39=1.0, H-48=0.2, t=0.72) — arm-specific, reversible plasma-choline fall, ALT rise, and cholesterol drop — moves it to [0.899, 0.101].

What the model may not capture

The real uncertainty is not essentiality-versus-not but generalization: the depletion evidence is short-term, male-only, and in selected men, so H-48’s live content is really “de novo PEMT synthesis suffices for ordinarily-nourished people,” which the carving flags as its analysis-failure mode — and that conditionality is already folded into H-39’s “when methionine/folate not in excess,” making the two members less cleanly opposed than a binary essentiality question implies. Because the space is exhaustive-by-construction, the “is the answer on the list” question is trivially covered, but the interesting unlisted possibility — essential for some subgroups (e.g. men, PEMT-variant carriers) and not others — is not separately weighed.

What would help

Depletion-repletion data in women and across PEMT/MTHFD1 genotypes to test the conditional — exists, unread. A quantified population fraction whose endogenous synthesis covers requirements — unclear.

Confusions and contradictions

None irreducible: the depletion signals point coherently one way, and the residual disagreement is about generalization, not a genuine evidentiary conflict.
