Primary AGASA (Akeno Giant Air Shower Array, Japan, 100 km^2 ground-array) measurement of the cosmic-ray spectrum from Feb 1990-Oct 1997: reports 11 events above 10^20 eV and a spectrum showing no clear cutoff at the GZK energy, in apparent tension with the later HiRes/Auger suppression measurements. relevance_note: independent ground-array (as opposed to fluorescence) primary flux measurement at the extreme high-energy end; also the historical source of the AGASA-vs-HiRes GZK-cutoff controversy that the field later resolved via Auger.
