Results were otherwise consistent when early events (first 24 months) were excluded, across geographic regions, and in those with prior diabetes. The prevalent-CVD subgroup was the sole heterogeneity signal, and its interaction test was non-significant.

Why this is evidence
The one protective subgroup signal (prevalent-CVD participants) has a non-significant interaction (P=0.24) and does not replicate in the secondary-prevention ONTARGET/TRANSCEND cohorts. A genuine population-wide protection (H-6) or a robust subgroup-dependent sign (H-49) would predict a stronger, replicated, or significant-interaction signal; an isolated, non-significant, non-replicated blip is what H-21 (null with sampling noise across many tested endpoints/subgroups) predicts. It therefore discriminates the null from the protective/subgroup-dependent readings.
