A dedicated diabetics-only cohort: 1,013 adults with diagnosed diabetes (on antidiabetic medication) identified within the 28,572-person Greek EPIC cohort, followed 1993-mid-2004 (mean 4.5y, 4,579 total person-years), 80 deaths (46 cardiovascular). Diet (incl. egg intake in g/d by FFQ) and physical activity assessed at baseline. Egg consumption was associated with higher mortality in this diabetic population: HR ~1.31 for all-cause mortality (per reported increment), and a stronger CVD-mortality-specific HR of 1.54 (95% CI 1.20-1.97) per 10 g/d higher egg intake (i.e., roughly per ~0.7 extra eggs/week) reported in secondary sourcing of this same cohort. This is a genuine diabetics-only prospective cohort (not a subgroup cut of a general-population paper), and finds an adverse association notably in a European diabetic population, distinct from the general (largely null) European egg-T2D incidence literature (cf. S-8 - Wallin 2016 Diabetologia - egg consumption and T2D in the Cohort of Swedish Men + updated dose-response meta-analysis.md). relevance_note: rare diabetics-only cohort (thread ii) with clear adverse mortality signal; complements Jang 2018 (Korea) and Díez-Espino 2017 (Spain, null) as the third distinct diabetic-subgroup/diabetics-only data point.
