Randomized crossover trial in 30 overweight/obese women (BMI ≥25, age 25-60): an isocaloric, equal-weight egg breakfast (2 eggs) vs. a bagel breakfast, 3.5h before an ad-lib lunch, order randomized 2 weeks apart. The egg breakfast produced greater self-reported satiety (Fullness Questionnaire, State-Trait Food Cravings Questionnaire) and significantly lower energy intake at lunch and over the following 36h (weighed food intake + dietary recall) versus the bagel breakfast, despite equal calories and weight.
relevance_note: Primary acute-feeding evidence that eggs are unusually satiating gram-for-gram/calorie-for-calorie versus a refined-carb comparator — the mechanistic seed for the later egg-breakfast weight-loss RCT (Vander Wal 2008) from the same group.
