8-week parallel-arm RCT in 152 overweight/obese adults (BMI 25-30) on a 1000-kcal energy-deficit low-fat diet, randomized to a daily egg breakfast (2 eggs, 340 kcal) or an isocaloric/isoweight bagel breakfast 5 days/week. The egg-breakfast group lost 65% more body weight (-6.0 vs -3.5 lb) and had an 83% greater reduction in waist circumference than the bagel-breakfast group over 8 weeks, despite matched calorie intake.
relevance_note: The clearest body-composition/weight-loss outcome (not just single-meal satiety) attributed to egg-vs-carbohydrate breakfast substitution, egg-industry funded.
