Randomised, double-blind crossover feeding trial in 17 lacto-ovo-vegetarian college students, who ate ~400 kcal/day of test foods containing either one extra-large egg (raising dietary cholesterol from ~97 to ~418 mg/day) or an isocaloric eggless equivalent, each for 3 weeks, in “free-living” (not metabolic-ward) conditions. Mean LDL-C was 12% higher (p=0.005) and ApoB 9% higher (p=0.007) during the egg period than the eggless period; HDL-C, apo A-I/A-II, VLDL-C and triglycerides did not change significantly.
