Two Swedish prospective cohorts free of CVD at baseline: Cohort of Swedish Men (37,766 men) and Swedish Mammography Cohort (32,805 women), egg intake by FFQ, 13-year follow-up, ascertained via Swedish national registers (1,628 HF/3,262 MI/2,039 ischemic stroke/405 hemorrhagic stroke in men; 1,207/1,504/1,561/294 respectively in women). No significant association between egg consumption and MI or any stroke type in either sex, nor HF in women. In men, ≤6 eggs/week was not associated with HF, but daily consumption (≥1/day) was associated with 30% higher HF risk (RR 1.30, 95% CI 1.01-1.67). No association with any CVD outcome among diabetics in this cohort (contrasting with the US PHS/diabetic-interaction finding). relevance_note: A large, mostly-null Nordic anchor with one significant exception (HF in men at daily intake) that mirrors the Djoussé PHS heart-failure dose-response, and a notable diabetic-subgroup null that runs counter to the US pattern.
