16,030 adults from the China Health and Nutrition Survey (1991-2015), median 9.0-year (up to 9.9-year) follow-up, 663 incident CVD cases. Egg consumption assessed via repeated 3-day 24-hour dietary recalls plus household inventory records; cumulative mean intake over 1991-2011 used as the habitual-intake exposure. Habitual egg consumption >50 g/day (roughly ≥1 egg/day) was associated with 43% higher incident CVD after adjusting for demographic, socioeconomic and behavioural factors; overweight/obesity, hypertension and diabetes partly mediated the association.
relevance_note: The clearest, most methodologically distinct (repeated-recall, cumulative-exposure) Asian harm signal in the pool — directly challenges any easy “Asian data = null/protective” summary.
