Observational (non-randomized-comparison) analysis nested in the PREDIMED trial cohort: 7,216 Spanish adults aged 55-80 at high cardiovascular risk, 50% (n3,608) with type 2 diabetes at baseline, mean 5.8y follow-up, 342 major CVD events (MI/stroke/CV death). Explicitly tests whether the egg-CVD association differs by diabetic status. Found no evidence of interaction by diabetic status: among diabetics, >4 eggs/week vs <2/week gave HR 1.33 (95% CI 0.72-2.46); among non-diabetics, HR 0.96 (95% CI 0.33-2.76) - both non-significant, wide, overlapping CIs. Authors conclude low-moderate egg intake shows no significant CVD association regardless of diabetic status. This is the null counter-example to S-14 - Jang 2018 Nutrition and Diabetes - egg consumption and CVD risk interacting with T2DM status, KoGES Ansung-Ansan.md (Korea) and S-16 - Trichopoulou 2006 J Intern Med - diet, physical activity and mortality among diabetic adults in a Greek population cohort.md (Greece), both of which found adverse diabetic-specific signals - useful for calibrating how consistent the “worse in diabetics” interaction really is.
