Summary: 12-week parallel RCT in 65 adults with type 2 diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance (mean BMI 34), on an energy-restricted (6-7 MJ/day) high-protein diet, comparing a high-cholesterol arm (2 eggs/day, 590 mg cholesterol) to a low-cholesterol arm (100 g lean meat/fish replacement, 213 mg cholesterol). Both arms lost ~6 kg. HbA1c fell ~0.6%, fasting glucose fell ~0.5 mmol/L, and total cholesterol/triglycerides fell in both groups; HDL-C rose in the egg arm and fell in the meat arm; LDL-C was unchanged in both. Relevance_note: Disease-defined (T2D/IGT), weight-loss-context egg RCT with an explicit, disclosed egg-industry funder — a load-bearing PRO-egg anchor whose motivatedness must be weighed explicitly.
