Summary: 12-week parallel RCT in 42 overweight/obese adults (40-75y) with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes, randomized to 1 large egg/day vs. an equivalent egg substitute. Fasting glucose fell ~4.4% in the egg group (P=0.05); HOMA-IR was significantly lower in the egg group at all timepoints (improved insulin sensitivity). Total/LDL cholesterol unchanged; ApoA1 and ABCA1 protein rose in the egg group. Relevance_note: An independent (non-Fernandez-lab, non-Australian) whole-egg-vs-substitute RCT in a pre-/T2D population reporting improved, not worsened, glycemic control and insulin sensitivity.
