Kuopio Ischaemic Heart Disease Risk Factor Study (KIHD), 1,950 middle-aged/older men from eastern Finland (1984-1989 baseline; apoE-phenotype data on 1,015), diet by 4-day food records, mean follow-up 21.2 years, 217 incident strokes (166 ischemic, 55 hemorrhagic). Comparing highest to lowest egg-intake quartile, adjusted HRs were 0.81 (total stroke, 95% CI 0.54-1.23), 0.84 (ischemic), 0.75 (hemorrhagic) — none significant (P-trend 0.32-0.44); cholesterol intake showed a similarly null pattern. ApoE4 phenotype (32% of men) did not modify the (null) associations; diastolic BP was slightly lower in the highest egg-intake quartile. relevance_note: A long-follow-up (21-year), genotype-stratified null result — directly relevant to the “for whom” (ApoE) question even though its endpoint (hard, stroke) sits in slice 1, not the lipid-surrogate ApoE literature slice 5 owns.
