Summary: Double-blind RCT (Beijing, conducted Nov 2023-Apr 2024) in 58 adults with type 2 diabetes (history >3y, baseline HbA1c >=6.5% or FBG >=7.0 mmol/L), randomized to selenium-enriched eggs or zeaxanthin-enriched eggs, twice daily for 12 weeks (55 completers). Fasting glucose and HOMA-IR improved significantly in both arms; no significant between-arm HbA1c difference overall, with larger improvement in those with lower baseline HbA1c; the zeaxanthin-egg arm showed a significant triglyceride reduction; total cholesterol unchanged in either arm. Relevance_note: A geographically and financially independent (Chinese, government-funded, non-industry) T2D-population egg RCT reaching the same null-to-beneficial glycemic/lipid conclusion as the Western, often egg-industry-funded trials in this slice — an important independence check on the motivatedness hazard.
